Float tinted glass is produced by adding a colourant during a float glass production run. The most common colours are grey, bronze, green and blue. Apart from its function in an aesthetic sense, tinted float is primarily designed to reduce solar heat gain and glare and increase the confort levels and reduce cooling costs in building. Most float glass can be toughened, a process that creates safety glass out of annealed glass.

Float reflective glass reflects a large proportion of incoming solar radiation, thereby restrictiong heat penetration into the building. This is an ordinary float glass with a metallic coatinog to reduce solar heat. This special metallic coating also produces a mirror effect, preventing the subject from seeing through the glass. It is mainly used in facades.
